In a competitive market like the pharmaceutical one, a company needs to have differentials to be pointed out. EMS, the national company presenting one of the largest growth indexes of the market, is betting on research and development to maintain the company performance and to consolidate her position between the leaders of this area.
To turn a dream into reality of having the most modern R & D Center of Latin America, EMS has invested in 2002 approx R$ 25 millions. And it is in this Center that the company develops formulations and executes validation and stability tests, both in laboratory and in semi-industrial scales. The company also works in the creation of analytical methods of equivalence and of new efficient and safe pharmaceutical forms with accessible prices for doctors and patients. Among the most relevant R & D conquests we can include the development of the benzodiazepines diazepam, lorazepam and bromazepam – famous sedative drugs. These medications were administered for oral use only in tablets being ingested and absorbed in a slow and gradual way. The R & D work resulted in a new line of neurological products from EMS, designated Fast, allowing the sublingual use and assuring a rapid absorption and effect of the medication in the body. One of the most important steps for the consolidation of EMS in R& D was the signature in 2006 of a technical – scientific agreement with the Italian research laboratory MonteResearch, assuring the interchange of technical knowledge between Brazilian and Italian investigators, to add knowledge in the development area of formulations and new pharmaceutical forms. EMS annually allocates 6% of the company revenue to research and development, being this a concrete fact that R & D is one of the company priorities to maintain the accelerate rhythm of products launching.
